A bodaboda rider cheated death by a whisker yesterday night after being shot at by a doctor attached to the military.

The incident happened at White House Estate, Syokimau, Machakos county.

The bodaboda rider by the name Wycliffe Atendo had just dropped the army man’s daughter at home when the man whipped out a pistol and shot at him in rage.

According to the DCI, the 21 year old young lady requested the online bodaboda operator to drop her home. She boarded the motorcycle along Kimathi Street in Nairobi for the 20km journey.

“The duo arrived at the agreed address and as the woman was about to pay him, a man quickly emerged from the gate and gave her a beating like a rented mule, before showing her into the compound.

As the nduthi man pondered his next move, the enraged man whipped out a firearm and fired at him instead, making him flee the scene for dear life,” said the DCI.

The rider reported the incident at Syokimau Police Station. Officers from the station responded and took the suspect into custody.

He was in possession of a Glock pistol and 42 rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition. The doctor is currently under military police for further action.

Many riders are advertising their services online and commuters prefer to hire them instead of getting on random motorbikes especially at night. Still, this incident underscores the danger that the riders put themselves in when riding at night.

DCI hotline number 0800 722 203 is available toll free in case of such incidences.
