Loans facility Mogo will start offering financing for Roam electric motorcycles. The two companies announced a strategic partnership on April 3rd in a deal that aims to accelerate the adoption of climate friendly motorcycles in Kenya.
Roam is one of the pioneering climatech companies that designs and deploys electric vehicles suitable for the African continent. The company started by launching an electric bus in Nairobi and recently opened a showroom for motorbikes in Ruaraka where customers access all information and get a feeling of the real bikes.
According to Roam, the financing deal with Mogo will see boda boda riders increase their daily earning by 30%.
The partnership will also “initiate 20 in-store locations across Kenya to get a large reach and better service for a broader market of customers.”
eMobility has been gaining traction in Kenya in recent years despite challenges such sparse electric vehicle charging stations.
Boda bodas who have already moved to electric motorcyles in Nairobi and other cities such as Kigali usually exchange depleted batteries with new ones in less than five minutes. This saves them the time it takes to charge an electric battery.
Optimists hold that in the near future, it will be possible to charge an electric vehicle battery in less than 10 minutes and even less for electric motorcycles.
We’re thrilled to partner with Mogo to tap into the expanding market of boda boda riders eager to transition to electric motorcycles amidst soaring petrol prices. By leveraging Mogo’s expertise in asset financing, we’re able to offer flexible financing options that make sure customers save money on day one. At Roam, our mission is clear, we want to provide the best and most affordable electric motorcycle to the market and Mogo is a great partner in accelerating that mission.
~ Mikael Gånge, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Roam
Some companies and organizations such as schools are also adopting electric vehicles and motorcycles. To lead by example, Mogo already procured Roam electric motorcycles for its internal employees.
Our partnership with Roam will expand access to electric motorcycles in Africa. We see that the electric motorcycle market is ever expanding and with Roam’s innovative products that enable customers to not only charge at home but also at the Roam Hubs, we believe the electric motorcycle market will eventually become larger than the petrol one.
