Depts of Culture and Forestry sign agreement to green heritage sites

The State Department of Culture and Heritage on April 19 signed an agreement with the State Department of Forestry aimed at greening all cultural heritage sites in Kenya.

The two departments will form a joint committee that will spearhead the GREEN CULTURE MOVEMENT aimed at greening of all historical sites, monuments, cultural sites and their neighbouring communities across the country.

The initiative boosts the governments concerted effort to increase the tree cover in Kenya to 30% by 2032.

The Green Culture Movement is a tree growing initiative by the State Dept for Culture and Heritage.

“The ravaging effects of climate change is there for all to see from prolonged droughts and erratic weather patterns that have constantly threatened our livelihoods and the economy at large. The GREEN CULTURE MOVEMENT will hence play an integral role in landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation and reducing greenhouse gases. Thus, ensuring a better and more productive Kenya for all,” noted Ms Bashir.
