The Safaricom Lipa na Data service is the latest payments option by Kenya’s leading telecoms company. The feature was unveiled towards the end of June 2023.

Lipa na Data enables a Safaricom customer to settle some bills using their internet bundles balance, in a similar way that Bonga points works.

The conditional feature is available to both prepay and post-pay customers.

Lipa na Data USSD code and process

The Lipa na Data USSD code is *544*34# which will give you the options if you are a qualifying subscriber.

Current condition to qualify means you must have a minimum data balance of 5GB to use the service if you are a post-pay customer and the same amount of non-expiry data balance or above for prepay subscribers.

You are out of luck if your data balance does not meet the mentioned conditions.

Once you access the menu using the Lipa na Data USSD code, you can check your data balance and decide how much of it you want to redeem for MPESA Till and Paybill services.

Well, you wont even be able to access this menu if you are not eligible. Try it.

There is also an option to calculate your data conversion to Kenyan shillings. You can then decide how much of the data equivalent you, wat to spend to pay for goods and services.

With about 7692Mbs, (over 7.6GB) you can convert it to KES 500. How economical is this though? The decision is yours to make.
